Day 1 Continued – St Jean to Orisson
After a bite of lunch in St Jean (no shopping), we took off uphill. The steepness of the slope was shocking, but the scenery was beautiful.
The MINUTE we got on the trail, it started raining. For a while, we were walking on pavement, which wasn’t too bad. When the trail switched over to a dirt track, the going became slippery and difficult. That’s when I fell in love with my trekking poles. No accidents allowed! John really enjoyed the wildflowers along the way.
Our refuge for the night greeted us with two top bunks, the last in the place. That’s okay, they had a cute concierge,
Dinner was a fun group event, with folks from a dozen countries standing up to greet the group and discuss their reason for walking the Camino. My table mate, Seiko, from Japan, taught us all to make oragami birds from our placemats.
Cold night. I slept in my clothes. “Slept” is not the right term. Other than the lady who snored like a freight train all night, the other 9 souls in the room spent the hours waiting for dawn and planning revenge.
The adventure has truly begun…..hope day 3 is drier! Will look forward to hearing about your next stop!
