Day 11 – Navarrete to Santo Domingo de la Calzada (10 Miles)
Today was a light day of walking, as it was John’s final day on the Camino. We had arranged for an afternoon taxi pickup and wanted to have a nice farewell lunch together.
The weather and scenery provided him with a spectacular sendoff. Temperatures in the 60’s with clear, sparkling sunshine. Vineyards backed by wheat, rolling hills and snow covered mountains were our paradise. 
We have been so grateful for the beautiful weather this last week, especially knowing that conditions have been very wet back home.
I turned around at the crest of a hill and this is what I saw. 
It is quiet, but never silent on the trail. This morning, I heard the sound of the wind, birds chirping and a tiny woman passed me singing softly in Italian.
At the next moment, a biker flew by at high speed, spewing gravel, and shouting “Hola”. The sights and sounds are always changing.

Sometimes I think it would be fun to go zipping down the trail, but then I remember those steep, rocky stretches where the riders had to get off and push their heavy bikes, with laden panniers, up the slope. That did not look like fun. I know I can push myself up the hill. Not so sure I could push their bikes.
As we came into Santa Domingo, a shepherd with his herd and 3 sheepdogs crossed the path. The sheep were not at all bothered by us pilgrims. They were only intent on finding their next bites. http://trishdeford.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/img_0857.mov
