We’re Off! Leaving today from St. Jean Pied du Port.

Too much excitement about the trip led to very poor sleep last night. Not the way I hoped to begin my hike up the Pyrenees. But, walk we must.

We arrived at the starting point, St. Jean this morning. A very charming, old town with wonderful shops…linens, chocolates and espadrilles of every color! No shopping for me on this journey of simplicity and learning to live with less.

From this vantage point, the mountains look beautiful and green, though they are topped with fog. I am assured that there are ground level markers, so I can stay on the trail.

Tonight, we will stay on the mountain, at the Refuge of Orisson, a hostel. This will be my first experience with bunk beds and communal baths since summer camp. Tomorrow, we walk to Roncevalles, our next wi-fi location. Stay tuned.

Trish and John, your journey in this process began long before October of 2015. Life is like walking a trail that has diverted routes and sometimes requires bushwhacking (unintended off-the-path ventures) to reorient our direction. You all are back on a path that now defines your new direction.
Direct your feet as they propel you forward (up and down). Take your time and focus on their placement. Embrace your rambling thoughts, and take a few minutes each day & after your trip to revisit and reflect upon. Open and share your hearts with each other and the others also on their new path(s).
Listen to your body as this Trek is the physical part of reflection. Take your time…. I bet you will sleep better tonight!
    Cheers!! Roland ⛰ 🏘🚶🏼‍♀️🚶🏼‍♂️🇫🇷
